5 Contra Costa Restaurants Worth Booking This Year

Bridges Restaurant and Bar, Danville

Bridges has been a fixture in downtown Danville for close to three decades, and yes, this is the restaurant where the famous dinner table scene from Mrs. Doubtfire was filmed. Executive Chef Kevin Gin runs the kitchen with a California menu that leans on European and Asian influences. The restaurant recently changed hands, with new owners Eduardo Suntay and Maria Catherine Robles taking over and promising to preserve what made the place special while freshening up the menu and adding more live entertainment. Expect a $$$ price point, a lush patio with a waterfall, and a room that works equally well for a business dinner or an anniversary.

Tides, Danville

A few blocks from Bridges, Tides has become one of the most requested reservations in downtown Danville since opening in 2023. It is family owned, and sister restaurant to Forbes Mill Steakhouse, with a focus on fresh seafood alongside well executed steaks. The scallop risotto and the daily made desserts from the onsite pastry chef get mentioned in nearly every review I read. This is a $$$ restaurant, and it is a favorite for milestone dinners, the kind of place where the staff will surprise you with a card and a dessert if you mention you are celebrating.

Prime Steakhouse and Martini Garden, Walnut Creek

Housed in the old Scott's Seafood space in downtown Walnut Creek, Prime Steakhouse and Martini Garden was established in 1993 and fully revitalized in 2022. It gives the national steakhouse chains nearby some real competition, with a more personal feel and a martini list that lives up to the restaurant's name. The mushroom risotto and steak tartare surprised more than one reviewer who walked in expecting a standard steakhouse menu. There is an outdoor terrace and private dining rooms if you are planning a gathering. Plan for a $$$$ evening here, on par with a classic fine dining steakhouse.

Barranco, Lafayette

Chef and owner Carlos Altamirano has built one of the more respected small restaurant groups in the East Bay, and Barranco in downtown Lafayette is one of his standouts. The modern Peruvian menu includes a ceviche bar, anticuchos, and pollo a la brasa, all built around responsibly sourced ingredients. Altamirano grew up cooking alongside his mother in Lima before moving to San Francisco, and that personal history comes through in the food. Barranco sits right near the Lafayette BART station, which makes it an easy stop after a day in the city, and it is one of the more approachable prices on this list at $$.

KHAKI, San Ramon

The newest addition to this list, KHAKI opened in 2025 at City Center Bishop Ranch and quickly became the most talked about opening in the Tri-Valley dining scene. It is led by Chefs Sujan and Pujan Sarkar, with Sujan bringing Michelin star pedigree from his time at Indienne in Chicago. The menu reimagines Indian comfort food through California ingredients, with dishes like lamb shank biryani and Kerala fish curry alongside a well built cocktail program. It is a $$$ experience and a great option if you want something a little different from the East Bay's usual steakhouse and Italian standbys.

A few thoughts from someone who has watched these neighborhoods for a long time

What strikes me about this list is how much it mirrors what I see in the housing market itself. Danville and Lafayette reward restaurants and buyers who value history and walkability, Walnut Creek keeps attracting bigger, more polished concepts, and San Ramon is where a lot of the newest energy in Contra Costa is landing right now.
